Project Aims

  • To support the development of self-organised groups and networks for lesbians and bisexual women
  • To provide information and advice on a wide range of issues to individual lesbians, bisexual women and groups
  • To offer information, support and training on lesbian and bisexual women’s issues to existing voluntary sector agencies and services
  • To support the development of lesbian and bisexual women friendly services enabling better access for lesbians and bisexual women to existing provision
  • To raise the profile and visibility of lesbians and bisexual women in Manchester, facilitating their participation in city-wide events and activities

Services

Groups

The Lesbian Community Project offers support to new and existing groups (whether social, sport or leisure) which target lesbians and bisexual women. The support we offer includes help with drafting a constitution, group organising and administration, publicity, fundraising, financial management, training needs of volunteer organisers and emergency or crisis support.

Information

We provide an information service for individual lesbians, bisexual women and groups on lesbian, bisexual women friendly and lesbian, bisexual women specific services, by e-mail, telephone, post and first-hand at events, festivals and meetings. We also do this through the production of a free quarterly newsletter.

Newsletter

Production and distribution of a regular newsletter providing information on groups, events, activities and services of interest to lesbians and bisexual women living in Manchester. The newsletter can be accessed on this website, or to receive it by post just e-mail, ring or write to us. Feel free to contact us if you require any specific information about services available to lesbians.

Targeted work

Targeting work with lesbians and bisexual women with children, from black and ethcnic minority communities, with disabilities, and older lesbians and bisexual women.

Training and working in partnership

Provide information, support and training on lesbian and bisexual women’s issues to voluntary and public sectors, and to support the development of lesbian and bisexual women friendly services.

Raising visibility of lesbians and bisexual women

Raising the profile and visibility of lesbians and bisexual women and their needs in Manchester and good practice in work with lesbians and bisexual women, through participating in conferences, lesbian and gay and community events.
